Lake County Major Crime Task Force

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force became operational in February of 1992. It was developed by agencies which include the Lake County Sheriff's Office, the Lake County States Attorney's Office, and, the Lake County Chiefs of Police Association. The Task Force was formed in response to a mutual need to provide strong investigative resources and expertise to any county law enforcement agency. The criteria with which it follows is:
1. homicide
2. kidnapping (other than parental)
3. police-involved shooting
4. exceptionally heinous crimes.

Through intergovernmental agreement, an increase from 25 to 33 positions for unit staffing was authorized and utilized by the 34 member agencies. These positions include command personnel, investigators, and evidence technicians.

As a participating member, the Sheriff's Office contributes four investigators to the unit and continues to furnish an office facility where the business of the task force is conducted.

To date, the Lake County Major Crime Task Force has been called in on 27 major cases and has successfully cleared all 27 cases.
