FOIA Request

The Village of Lake Villa maintains rules and regulations implementing the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) which provide procedures, instructions, and forms for obtaining Village public records.

All requests for public records must be submitted to the Village in writing via personal delivery, mail, fax, e-mail, etc. The Village encourages submitting requests using the FOIA Request Form which is also available at the Village Hall.  The Village will respond to each written request in a manner consistent with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.  In order to expedite the search for the records, please be as specific as possible.

Copies of public records will be provided upon payment of a copying fee, if applicable, as provided in Section IV(b) of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140/4(b).  If requested, copies of public records will be mailed after the Village receives payment of the actual cost of postage and copying.

Organizational Description

The Village of Lake Villa is a municipality organized under the Constitution and Laws of the State of Illinois. The Village operations include police protection and public order, control over building and construction, public buildings, streets and public ways, and operation of water and sewer systems. The fiscal year 2018/2019 operating budget is $11,547,410.

Village offices are located at: 65 Cedar Avenue, Lake Villa, Illinois, 60046. The Village employs 33 full-time employees.

General Information 

The Village has the following general categories of records, which are available as required by the Freedom of Information Act: minutes, ordinances, resolutions, Building Department files, Police Department records, general information files. Requests for public records should be directed to the Freedom of Information Officer at the Village Hall, 65 Cedar Avenue, Lake Villa, Illinois, and may be obtained by filling out a Freedom of Information Act request for information form. The fee for copies of public records is reproductive charge: $.15 per page for photo-copying (first 50 pages free).
